She became a Christian and made a decision to use her singing talent to glorify God. However, she quickly realized that a young, single, attractive, talented girl was never going to remain unnoticed at church.

First, she captures the attention of a jealous church sister who is determined to dig into her mysterious past and then the new pastor who seemed to reciprocate her affection. After falling in love with him, her past rears its ugly head and Maribel realizes that she has to tell her new found love the truth about her history before she can accept his marriage proposal. Can a preacher and an ex- prostitute be happy together?

Though I have read thousands of books, I have only reviewed hundreds of them. This book lands in the former category. I first read this book a couple of years ago, and really, really loved both the storyline and characterizations. But alas, did not feel propelled to leave a review. But, during a serious drought in a quality read, I reverted back to searching my iPad and re-reading older books. Thus, my reintroduction to Ms. Brenda Barrett's 'The Preacher and the Prostitute'. Upon the second reading, I am compelled and propelled to write this review.

This book touches on so many different levels. It is a very deep romantic read based on the teachings of the bible and it's wisdom. You emphasize with the horrific upbringing of our lead female character, Maribrel. An upbringing that brought her to a time in her life where she was led to believe that the change she was seeking could only be brought about by participating in the negative energy provided by the underworld of our society. We witness a chance meeting with a cab driver which prepares her for a more positive outlook and a spiritually motivated turn of events that led her to seek out a church to further her curiosity in the life of a Christian.

This moralistic search for answers by Maribel lands her smack dab in the middle of The field of hypocrisy that exists in churches all over the world, no matter what denomination. The hypocrisy that deems one member holier than thou and leaves no room for forgiveness other than for the sins they have deemed forgivable. Drastically opposed to and forsaking the teachings laid out by the writers of the Bible, who were led by the Holy Spirit. As you delve between the pages of this great read, you will be surprised to find out that this hypocrisy can also be found amongst those who are charged with teaching the sheep how to follow the lead shepherd - the pastor. In this case we have Brian Edwards, newly appointed pastor of the church Maribel has chosen to a part of. Brian, in all his purity is drawn to the beauty of Maribel, in a her beautiful red dress and begins a courtship with her in hopes of making her his wife.

I highly recommend this author and this story for your reading pleasure. This romance is beautifully wrapped and followed through with an intriguing and loving story on forgiveness and all that it entails. I wrote this review in a way which will propel your 1-click finger to download immediately, based on whetting your readers' palette with just crumbs of the story. Crumbs that I sincerely hope will have you wanting to read the meat of the story for yourself.

I have read 4 other books by Ms. Barrett and have found each read a delectable treat. But, alas, this review is the only one I have written on her works. Maybe I will have to reverse that trend, because the word should definitely be spread as to what a great author she truly is. Ms. Brenda Barrett is definitely an author worth both your time and your money. She is a "Keepah"!

The Preacher and The Prostitute edition by Brenda Barrett Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

Wow..I loved this book and didn't want it to end. I am a Christian and the title alone pulled me in. As I was reading this book I found myself pausing at certain passagse to give God the glory. The author displayed God as an on-time God, and she showed how God would make your enemies your footstool. At one point I had to ask God to forgive me because I was hoping something would happen to Sister Thelma, she was pure evil. Besides the characters being relatable, I love the fact that the author made you really look inside yourself, to self examine yourself like the Word says. As REAL Christians, I believe one of the hardest things living this Christian lifestyle is forgiving. We are quick to say we forgive yet our actions says something differently or depending on the circumstances like Pastor Brian and Maribel in The Preacher and The Prostitute; we think certain sins aren't forgiveable. However, God said FORGIVE AND HE WILL FORGIVE OUR SINS!!! Again great book, BUT THE BOOK )
Great book! This book reminds us that Jesus commands us to love others as we love ourselves. Forgiveness is a commandment that some Christians have a problem with. We have "all" sinned and come short of the glory of God. Anyone without sin should cast the first stone. We all have done things in our past that is not worthy to write home about. We must ask ourselves who are we to judge others...all sin is sin. Thelma had a wakeup call when Maribel told her about her affair and Rose not being her husband's daughter. Everything done in the dark will come to the light. When Brian had the sexual relation with Maribel, I think it was an eye opener to him that we are all human and subject to sin. We can't just be individuals who preach love and forgiveness and do the opposite. I was so glad when Brian realized that when God has forgiven us, we become new creatures. Don't get caught up in what others think about your past when you have changed your life for the better. Their testimony is an example to all who are struggling with a checkered past. I highly recommend this book to others! You will not be disappointed!!
The Preacher and the Prostitute by Brenda Barrett!!!!!!!!! Forgiveness and Love two powerful things! This is a book about forgiveness. Forgiveness is something they we must do. For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. Excellent plot, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat.
First I will start by saying Brenda this book is tastefully written. I however struggled with my feelings for Brain. To say he was a hypocrite is an understatement. He preaches love and forgiveness but he proves to not be able to give either. He relentlessly pursues Maribel ,often talking to her about the act of forgiveness, and how the stories of his parishioners and their ability to forgive has inspired him to write a book. Yet the minute he learns of part of her past he distanced himself from her. The woman he claimed to have loved so much, he's asked her to marry him. Then when all of her pass comes to light he dismisses & abandons her. He even returns to Canada. My dislike for him only increased when he, knowing the pain it would cause Maribel made the decision to marry another on her birthday. Also the nerve he showed in coming to see her after she infoms him she in town with the choir, and to sleep with her after revealing he was done with her. Talk about being petty and selfish. Never once did he even consider the struggles and strength it took for her to grow and move beyond her painful pass. My emotions were all over the place & for her my heart broke. While in the end Maribel continued to be a good Christian and use her life's story to help others and they do end up together and married, I find I did not come to a place of forgiveness for Brian at all. But I do love the way your words allow us as readers to emotionally invest your characters world.
